I think you're wasting your time if you do that. Marabou's cheap... dandelions won't be durable at all.

I just had a great idea... when the dandelions are done blooming soon here I'm going to pick them... they are tough and have similar look to marabou down feathers. I'll show ya after I get collecting... what do you guys think?

Worth a try to get that question out of your head, but I wouldn't put too much time onto it. Some of our best ideas come from outside the box, and who knows where this may lead. Lots of different materials to work with, and mix, to get some good results out of. You might try some round skirt material mixed with feather of your choice for something cheap, effective, easy to tie. A couple of the ones I tied from this stuff turned out to be real winners.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
I see so many catalogs when talking about some material weather it's synthetic or natural real stuff say it's a lot like marabou, LOL! Well if it's a lot like marabou why change? Marabou works great and have not seen anything that really is like marabou. Lots close, but not the same.

well i like my idea lol... the fine marabou i like isn't really any stronger but it ungulates nice... can't hurt to try Its free this time of year anyways.
Oh didn't say not to try it, just telling what I notice in the catalogs on line and real kind. They all hope to have
something they can say it's like marabou and ever time I see that I have to chuckle. I say try what ever hits your mind
and see what happens as you never know until you try. I really was not hitting the idea of trying the dandelion.
I say never let anyone stop you from trying something new! Go with your gut! Show us some picks though.

My friend cut some hair off the tail of his dog and made some bucktail musky lures.
You mean dog tail huh? I have some Temple Dog hair they sell for tying big streamers and such for Musky and Northers, fish like that up North. It's really long and nice fine hair. Another great looking hair I got a few samples of that I am sure to get more of is Cashmere Goat hair, very nice stuff and probably 6"-8" long.

Try them, you never know if they will until then. They are a little brittle but I know fish will eat them off the surface. Might be a killer jig on a 1/80 or 1/100 jig. Might even try dogwood fluff for dubbing if you have much aorund. That stuff is a pain in the neck to get off of anything so it should be tough dubbed on a hook. And again, I see fish take it off the surface all the time so who knows.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.
I may go green and try some Spanish moss...
