Snake 2 to 4 lb test. Here I don't go out with less than 6lb. Most of the time I use 8 lb test. We have to contend with some big Largemouth Bass. Biggest this year was a 8lber caught about a month ago fishing Crappies around a bunch of cypress trees. Dang fish even pulled the boat a 12 foot rod does ware them down fast. About as much fun as a man can have standing up.
BTW our Lake record is 16 lbs. 4 oz. Now thats a big Bass.

Really comes down to matching the hatch. I tie a lot of 1/64s for the early season up this way. And, I'll tie a lot of 1/80ths when ice fishing rolls around again. I post up some pics late tonight when i get done with some HOT 1/32s.
The chartreuse and white are hot right now in my neck of the woods. All shown are tied on a 1/32.

PA Slabs I try to match the hatch most of the time here. There is a time of the year that the Big Old Crappies The 14 to 17 inch fish want a big old bait. Here that is the end of January or fist part of February. Thats when I start in with the big jigs and Plastics. I have used some 1/4 oz jigs at that time of year. I know a old guy that uses 4 inch minnow then and cleans house with the big slabs. We fish the same stretch of river and compare notes all the time. Some times we will fish close to each other other times we will scout for each other. That cooperation has let me have many successful days out on the river.
Moral of the story. Don't limit yourself to just one size and one method. Find out what works at what time of year and use it to your advantage.
BTW really like the black and white tail jigs. Will tie up a few and see how they do here.
