Was it just not getting shiny and looked kinda grainy? As long as some melts and sticks you can just hold it back over the heat for a second while it's still hot and it'll gloss right up.
That's what I do. I found if I overheat it there is too much paint on the head and when it cures I get a nose like drip on the head. A little less time on the heat and the amount of paint was right, and I had to return it to the heat to glaze it before curing. No problems since.
