    Default Loon

Doe any of you all use any thinner with loons if you use loon. I mean mix it in with the cement when applying it to the jigs. Today I was using my applicator bottle and had to squeeze my brains out to get it to come out.

I have to add some thinner to the head cement because it gets thick. Inside the applicator top will form a layer of cement that needs to be cleaned too. I clean it out with the stem that is in the top.

Loon solvent based cement always does that. I had to thin it even month or so. I switched to water based and have not had any problems.

Say if your tying bucktails for like striped bass do you think the waterbase would hold as good as the solvent based.

I tie bucktail streamer flies and have ones that are 2 years old and I never have the bucktail come out. I whip finish mine and use 140 denier thread and have never had a problem with anything I ever tie coming undone, not by the thread unless I have landed 15-20 fish with it and the fish tore it up.

The only time I ever have a problem is when using my Larva lace or Body stuff materials and I don't think super glue would make any difference with that stuff. I either get it tied down perfect or it is going to come loose after a couple fish. I have tried HAN, solvent based, and other stuff and none of it made a difference.

It really comes down to how well you tie in the material. The man who taught me how to tie the streamer doesn't use head cement at all and his last as long as mine.
