I have better luck using deer body hair. I have used and seen it done with bucktails but I have better luck with the body hair.
Your jig looks good. It's fun sometimes to just tie with different materials, good work.

I tied this 3/8 salty the other night and I tried to spin deer hair... Buck tail exactly.... I cut it close and cut off the ends.. Did not get a good spread on it... Can you use buck tail or does it have to be body hair.

Did you use a blade to shape the hair.

Also when you get body hair you would be better off buying the Premo Cut which is long and narrow. About 3"-4" wide and maybe 12'-15" long, just don't remember just how long mine are. You get more and longer hair that way. However the down side is if you want many colors it's not cheap.
Also spinning it should make it stick straight out and then it's shaped with a double edge razor as it's the best thing to use.

Thanks stump no I didn't use a blade this time it came out to the length I wanted... Skip is it belly hair or hair from the back?

You want belly hair...on some larger (older) deer, bucks especially, the hair at the base of the tail, on the bottom 1/3rd will occasionally be thick enough to flare.
