Yes it is normal. You may want to place an epoxy finish (Devcon 2ton) to help them last longer, or you may not.

Hello, I use powder paint on all my jigs ,mainly pony heads 1/32, 1/16, 1/8 oz., and I'm very satisfied with the results I get. I fish rocky rivers and at the end of the day I find that some amount has chipped off the head or scrapped off from bounceing over rocks. I bake/cure them for 15 mins at 350* in my gas oven, is this enough ? Is it normal to chip a little when fished off rocks ? Am I just expecting a bulletproof finish ? -Thanks
Yes it is normal. You may want to place an epoxy finish (Devcon 2ton) to help them last longer, or you may not.
If you read the Mfg's charts they say most at almost 400 degrees for a time. I use close to 400, actually about 395 for 15-17 minutes depending on size of the jig heads. If you want to use 350 then you need to make sure it's 350 and probably at least 20 minutes. Feel sure more people will say their thought and some may not agree, but that's fine too!
I take it you didn't read the chart in the sticky?
Oh and don't forget that time is for the lead head temp and not just the over temp.

Pretty standard to see chipping from powder paint. I have yet to find a way to cure any PP that prevents it form chipping. I have considered going to vinyl paint for it's durability but I am not ready to spend 3x as long to use it regularly. That and I don't want a paint that leaves a long term odor, PP leaves none.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.
i use both and my preference is still vinyl.
I use both also, and will say this. If you want a bullet proof finish, then you need to go to the liquid vinyl paint. I use two coats of white under coat and one coat of color, and two coats of clear gloss. then I let them sit for at least a week before tying on them. the paint will get harder and harder. yea, it's a pain in the butt, and it's worth it to me.
I use 350 and 30 minutes as the oven has to warm also. And they hold up great even on Bigger Sauger jigs that hammering the bottom all the time. But if I back off to 15 minutes at 350 it chips easy.

I do 20 mins at 350, but even with the powder and using Devcon 2T over it, sooner or later anytime you fish jigs in rocky areas you're gonna get some chipped heads. Powder still holds up better than regular paint but IMO it's not foolproof.
