Default Jig hook question (32833 vs 570)

I am looking to purchase a new do-it mold and have a hook question - The mold calls for a Mustad 32833 hook - does anyone know if an eagle claw 570 will be interchangable??? I like the no colar profile of this mold for tying jigs and I already have a lot invested in 570's in most of the size range so I dont want to have to change hooks to use for only this mold.

    Thanks

The 32833 is a heavy wire hook (somewhat like the O'shaunessy hook) and although you could probably use the 570's in the mold, you're gonna run into flash problems. The groove's for the 32833 hook are going to be larger than the 570 adn if you were to use them you're gonna be doing alot of trimming.

If you could list which mold you're talking about maybe we could get a better idea, but just based on the hook style, you're gonna run into a lot more work.

    Hey Fatman

Thanks for the fast reply - I am looking at the "Do-It Ultralight Steelhead" (STL-8S-A). I was only considering this mold as I want to make some heads without a collar - just the round ball head. I noticed that when I use the jigs with the collars I end up with a larger wrap at the head of the jig. In looking at skips site it appears he uses round ball jigs with no collar. I am sure with Skips expierence this is not by coincidence!!!! I have not asked him directly but poking around on his site this is would I figure.

Any suggestion on another mold that will work with the 570's would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Look for the Pro 101 series do it molds if you are wanting collarless heads.

The biggest problem I have with some of the top Do-It molds is that they aren't all straight across the mold face, they have 4 on top, and then you flip it over and theres 4 on the bottom. It doesn't leave alot of room to put bigger hooks into the mold.

Do-Its web site leaves alot to be desired as they don't show the actual mold picture where in the catalouge they mail to your house you at least get a black and white photo of it.

    Hope this helps

FWIW Zeiners has their Do-it molds for $28.96. Just picked up their Do-it Round Head Heavy hooks mold. 7 Sizes 1/32-5/8. Should be coming in the mail anyday.
    Hope this helps.
