    Default Jigs w/ Y-Guard pics

Here is the first batch of jigs with the Y-guard from my new mold I poured. Tonight was the first chance I had to mess with it before it got dark on me. Notice the Y-guard are clear and black. The smallest shad dart head I have right now is 1/32 and it will take the #8 sickle hook. I do have a 1/48 minnow head mold.

Are you molding them in or putting a peg so you can powder paint then glue them in??? There's been a thread over at Tackle Underground on the same issue, they don't want to melt the weedguard when they cure them. I ask about glueing them in cause if you tie them up that weedguard is going to be in the way big time unless your only going to use plastics on them.

They sure to look good though

He's right about curing them with the weedguard, can't do it. I'm going to start doing exactly what Fatman said about powder coating and epoxying weedguards in later. Much more labor intensive but should be worth it.

I've been making weedless jigs with Y guards for a while now. I usually epoxy mine at the base because if you don't some of the weedguards will fall out from time to time.

I would recommend you take you're smallest hooks with Y guards and trim them on the ends quite a bit. I've had much better luck bending the ends of the Y guards with a pair of needle nosed pliers where they will just cover the end of the hook. When you leave them sticking up in the air, I've had good hits where I missed the fish and I think it's because the crappie hit the ends of the weedguard and knocked it out of their mouth.

Where did you get your mold & was it pretty reasonable?

I can say that I have seen (in person) PROWLERS weedless heads along with some of his hand tied stuff and they are all made very well.....I have neve used Y-guard...have always been partial to a single fiber or the bristle type...but like I said he makes very nice stuff...
