    Exclamation Hey Josh ....

yeah, I've got some of those. Never really got around to using them for Crappie .... but, I have imagined doing so :p
My plan was to put a split shot sinker up the line about a foot, and use the setup to cast & let fall to bottom. Probably tip jighead with a minnow.

Their biggest "con" is that the hook will always point "DOWN" :o ... so, not only are they prone to snagging into anything they come in contact with, if you should get a hit on one & hook into it ... the fish is going to be hooked in the bottom lip or in the lower jaw area. That's not exactly the best place to hook one unless you're lucky enough to get the hook into the tongue. That tongue is the toughest part of the lower jaw/mouth area on a Crappie.

I don't think the ones I have, have a #1 hook in them, though. If I remember correctly, it's more like a #4 (but, the ones I got were pretty small & primarily for topwater Bream fishing)

Pretty sure I picked them up at local Wal-Mart, but if not there ... then I bought them at a local bait store. Those were the only two places I ever bought tackle, before I found this site (& started getting alot of my tackle from the members)

I looked on Google: Google and the South Bend ones look like the ones I have. I also noticed, when looking thru some of the other brand links, that there are some brands that make them where the hook point stays pointing UP .... those would be of more interest to me, were I interested in purchasing some, now. (for the reason I mentioned in my last post).

I don't know if these are similar to what you guys are talking about but they are called High-Ball Floaters made by Northland Tackle.

Josh I use them all the time in river systems real snaggy places, if I get to a place where the fish are biting real well and I keep donating alot of them to the rocks, This is what I do and it saves you some money, take a bait hook of choice and use a earplug and thread it on the hook and add your shiner or minner, and it will float, try it it works, I get all the earplugs I want at work for free. The floating jighead are used typically for sauger and walleye, the ohio river I fish has a good sauger population and that is what alot of us here fish for in the river.

Used to really like these--they're a soft plastic like material. Used to be called a Phelps floater, but Phelps (inventor) took the name back a few years ago. Now they're a gumdrop floater. Northland makes some cool stuff. Used them for walleye fishing; tipped them with a minnow, about a 4' leader, and a walking sinker. Sometimes tied a treble stinger hook to them to stop the short strikes.
