hackle can be a pain when you first start.get hackle pliers, these tiny things help a lot with wrapping hackle, chenille, and other things.did you use a long enough piece of hackle?kina looks like you may have used a piece that was kina small in length.did you intend to have it go all the way up the fly to the hook eye,or just a short area on the fly?im still new to tying myself and have lots to learn.either way i still think your fly will interest a fish.here's a video YouTube - Tying a Soft Hackle Fly the guy makes it seem like childs play!i hope it helps you and gives you an idea what to basicly do.i try and watch videos of ppl tying things to learn.took me a while just to learn the whip finish :D here's my first successful ties with hackle april 20 | Facebook if you want to add me on face book you can

I would like to see another pic of your fly. Looks like some shadows are showing too and I can't tell what it really looks like.

Man that picture is very hard to see what it is, but I can tell enough to know you need some practice, LOL!

Go to FAOL and read their fly tying type school by AL Campbell and each step and each different fly will show you new things and how to do them. I don't understand why every one here is not doing that! This will show you how to handle (tie) chenille, hackle palmered two ways and all the other things you need to know to be able to tie well.

Keep at it! It can be a pain to get those feathers to do what you want. Also, listen to Skip... FAOL's beginning instructions can teach you a lot.
