So, you're not wrapping the chenille around the hook? Or am I just misunderstanding you?

What I do is lay the chenille the length of the hook shank wrap some thread to secure it, and then start from the bend of the hook area and wrap it towards the head.

OK, that's what got "lost in translation" when I read your previous post.

Try this, when you put your chenille on tie it in at the head and then hold it up while you tie it in to length you want. This will keep the chenile tight and the thread tight. Is what I have always done.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.

I thought you were tying them using this technique:

Glad to know you are not! :D

I always add a few drops of head cement to the shank as soon as I wrap my first few lines of thread. This stops everything from moving. Wrap, cement, add feathers, cement. Add crystal flash and a touch and cement, and then my chenille. Wrap up the finish knot and a drop of glue on it. I have never had a jig come loose, or break down while fishing. Even after catching the 111 crappie limit between the 3 of us on several occasions, not one jig ever came loose. Glue/head cement is cheap, I use a lot of it.

I do the same with "Hard As Nails". I wrap my thread base, then a swipe of clear polish. Then tie in my tail, then wrap the chenille. When I get to the head, I wrap the thread a couple of tight wraps to secure, then cut the chenille. I whip finish 4 or 5 times, pull thight and cut the thread. Then a drop of head cement on the knot.

Being heavy handed as I am, the maribou is screaming for mercy once I have it in place and start winding to hold it all. I use 70 denier thread, but break it regularly. I just like the way it hides better than the heavier.
