Fly tyers... Hares ear?

Hey guys, has anyone ever tried modifying a Hare's Ear to a jig? Here's what I'm thinking:

1/32oz or smaller jig, black/brown/olive
Tail: natural color rabbit hair
Body: One layer of brown chenille, wrap over that with a hare's ear dubbing loop
Maybe a collar of mottled brown hen or partridge?

This is something I'm going to try out tomorrow for sure! Figured I might get someone else's wheels turning or see if anyone else had tried something similar.

Most fly patterns can be modified to a jig and there is some real killers out there! When I started fly tying at a young age most of the patterns were for trout, not many trout in Indiana so I fished them for bluegills and they all work! A royal coachman is a band of red with some peacock hearl on each end (reinforced with tying thread) works real good on a jig. You can change the red color to others, I usually use yarn.

You can tie any fly pattern on a jig BUT!!! Make sure it doesn't have a collar and turn the jig over in the vise!!!!! so that it really does look right when you fish it.

And yes trout tiers have been doing it for a long time and spin fishers. I've got a magazine article on it from the 80's and I'll try and find it and scan it.

Yeah, I've got one from the 90's (I guess this goes in cycles. :D )

Anyway, this guy was really into fly fishing and tying. On a whim, he started tying some traditional patterns (hare's ears, PTNs, woolly buggers, etc.) on jig heads. He fished them on a spinning rod and found they worked much better than the "fly" versions.
