What do you guys that fish for Blue Gills a lot think? Wish that I had a smaller head already painted and a regular bend hook would have been nice too. Anyway what do you think? Will the gills get after this or no? Oh and it is a 1/32 #8, but probably would have made it 1/64 if I had one already painted.
This is really dry fly Hackle in the color Gold Badger and a base of Black Floss with gold strip wrapped over the floss.

Wish I'd had that this mornin. Fished a friends pond that has chunky gill's that would have liked that. They're big enough I caught em on a #7 Rapala.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
i was thinking 1/80 oz size 10 would be a real good size....looks like a killer to me.
That ought to get em Skip.

are you sure that you're not making jigs for trout skip that is definitely a killer and I'm sure the bluegills are going to love it.

LOL, I can make trout jigs too, just don't get many call from guys that fish trout. I do have at least one guy that fishing trout.
I stock down to 1/80, but don't get many calls for them and even the 1/64, don't move much. So I was thinking about adding a Blue Gill page to my site. That is kind of why i am asking some of this.
Oh and I have a DVD that I just bought that is going to teach me some new stuff that will just open the door that much more. DVD was not cheap either.
Thanks guys,

Nice jig, just hope you can sell enough to cover the necks you'll use to tie them. They seem to cost a fortune!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2 months ago I bought a ginger saddle hackle from Whiting and it ran me $45 bucks, hope it lasts a while.

LOL, that is the question for sure. I am thinking of a partial solution, but I am not going to use my $72 cape that is coming or the $150 full skin of a Medium Barred Ginger Rooster.
I have some other ideas about this, but I think most are more in line with crappie jigs as I bought some Full Hen skins too and will use that as hackle too. Mature Bird is $35 and has great feathers just like his roosters. Also some less than dry fly quality capes should have some that will work. I have some of them coming too.

Jig looks like a good one for gills.
