What size, type and style hook do you use for tying Clouser Minnow and Crappie candy for jigging crappie and panfish? I really like the Must R72 but it is on the high side price wise.

For fresh water and panfish?

The best thing to help you with this question is a couple of good links...

Yep...mine get double duty in saltwater so I just use a good saltwater hook. I tie from #6 to 1/0s...
So crappie and gills have no problem with this size hook?

I generally have used a 4 or 6 for crappie and an 8 for bream.

Crappie have no problem eating a 4" 1/0 Clouser 95% of the time...gills I'd want a #6-8 and tie it sparse...but I'd rather have a bug pattern for gills anyway.
The hook's the right size and shape and it's sharp which is the main thing. It being a saltwater hook doesn't make a difference for practical use.
Take a look at the Mustad 3366 and the Mustad 3407DT. They're similar hooks, but the DT is a saltwater hook. I like them in 8's and 10's for gills and 4's and 6's for crappie. I also have some size 1 3366's for "big" ones. Both of those hook models should be dirt cheap as far as hooks go, and they're perfect for the Clouser minnows.... straight eye and about 1x long. I tie a LOT of my gill flies on a 3366 size 8.
I was wondering about the Mustad because I have a lot of the 3399 which is the same hook but has a turned down eye. I know they are not the same action wise but I already tie a salmon fly on them so I figured why not for the Clouser and crapie candy. I don't remember what sizes I have though, 1/0 and 2 I think so nothing small enough for gills but they like buggy stuff anyway.
