    Default Painting Eyes On Jigheads

There's got to be a better way. I've been painting my eyes, after curing the powder paint, by using my wife's enamel craft paint and dotting the eye with the blunt end of a small paintbrush. Then I come back and dot the black with a toothpick. I cover the eyes with "Hard As Nails" after they dry. They seem to turn out ok but I would love to hear some better ways. Thanks, Scott

I use drill bits. Ones that have a flat end and pretty much do it the rest like you. I paint most with Acrylic and the hard as nail over, except for a couple colors it fine, but chart and FL Yellow will change and don't use the hard as nail then I use clear vinyl.

The more you tie the more you will see how come some jigs are one price, but then start adding eyes and flash and what ever, it all cost and it all takes time. If anyone is getting rich tying jigs then someone should look into him to see what is going on. If you don't love tying then you will not keep doing it even for your self.

Thanks Skip, I like the drill bit idea. My wife does some craft painting and she has acrylic paint also, so I'll give that a try. I can see where you could spend a lot of time on just one jig and the prices don't reflect that. Thanks for the tips.

Scott just get a cheap set of bits that have a flat end as some don't. Then you have one large and one half that size for the black. With a small cheap set you should have maybe 3-4 different size sets for eyes.

I use a set of wooden chop sticks. I simply take 1 stick and sand it down on my belt sander until it will make a large eye when dipped in vinyl jig paint. The second stick is sanded a little to make a small to medium size eye. The sticks are simply pushed into the sander and sanded flat. They work fine.

Along the lines of using a drill bit like Skip said, couldnt you use the generic Q-tips and just cut 'em in half. Use the big end for the the white and the cut stick end for the black and toss it. Would be really cheap and disposable, so no clean up. A 500 count box would do 1000 jigs if you only used each end for one jig.

    Anywho just thinking out loud.

Well said Skip. That is the honest truth. I also use drill bits and WAPSI jig paint with a covering of Hard as Nails.
