Crappie my fish of choice now but when was bass fishing long ago remember
red/white bass oreno and lucky 13s were hot, another I liked was the coachdog.

Well, beings how we've had all this rain in GA and all the lakes look like a mud puddle, I don't think the fish can see anything, I think they just accidentally bump into our hooks and get caught...lol, j/k of course. I've been a die hard believer in red hooks for ol' bucket lips for years. Maybe that's just because it's all I've used or it's just a confidence builder. I've read several times though that crappie are among the most "color-selective" fish there are, how true that is I don't know, but I've seen it with my own eyes, as well as others who troll, that some colors just out perform others.

How does anybody KNOW a fish doesnt see red?!? Did a fish ever tell anyboedy that?:confused::D If in-fact they cannot see the color red then jigs with that color sells due to the fact the fishermen CAN see red!;):p

skip told me before, jig tyers catch the fishermen not the fish...its all what you have faith in..

Following up on PBUG's answer above. Colors help for different conditions, but if you don't have confidence in that color (what ever it is) you probably are not going to do well fishing it. If you believe it will work then it will.

I don't listed to all the red and can't see stuff at all, but I don't think you want a jig or any lure to be all red, but I guess fishing a top water maybe then an all red bait would be good, but I bet it would be better if it's more some other color and a little red. I do think it can help.

I have started playing with including a red strip of floss in some jigs to see how that may help. I know it's use in a lot of hair jigs so don't see why that would work in a feather tail too. I also have some red flash that I can put in tails.

I'm not sure this is true??? When my wifes face turns red there is no weakness at all in those eyes :eek::eek::D:D

And we were fishing one night and a tree fell, and yes it made a noise without us being in the woods!!! :):)

Scientists know what colors fish see due to the cones and rods in their eyes. Red line is not disappearing, it's simply not visible as red (instead blue/black) due to the amount of light penetrating the water. It will happen with all colors at one depth or another.

That's IT!!!!!!! What can we use as translucent hooks?

Better yet, make a glass jig head and tie it with imagination and see if you can get bites. That will check the lateral line theory.

There is no doubt that fish rely on much more than eyesite. At the same time, each fish species varies. Sometimes fish are just feeding. You can throw anything and you'll catch fish. Like going to the grocery store when you're hungry! Other times they are just looking at dessert thinking, should I, or shouldn't I? This is the time when color, and, or presentation comes into play the most.

Last time I checked, a color is color. If it's red, they know what red does (or doesn't) look like. Who cares how they percieve it, as long as they accept it. Who was the genius that thought chartreuse would be good? I've not been everywhere, for sure, but I've yet to see anything that resembled a 2" curly tail in that flavor. Yet, a lot of fish seem to find it pretty appealing. Could be because they always seem attached to wood and can't get them in thier mouth. Maybe an anger strike. :D
