    Question Buck Tail ( to long )??


    anyone use buck-tail to tie crappie jigs?? seems to long for small jigs. What hair do you guys recommend? Im a newbie

    you can use buck you just cut it shorter kip tail tree rat craft fur all works well tho

    i use bucktail all the time.i just cut the bigger end off and use the uncut end where it tapers. ive used it on jigs as small as 1/64 oz

    Just trim it and use the tapered ends not the part connected to the tail. I prefer it on 1/4-3 oz jigs though.

    I tie all weights with bucktail cuz it retains its profile better than some of the others. I put a piece of tinsel down the side to mimic the lateral line. Too dang cold and busy to test yet but I have confidence. Also have some tied for Bass that will do well, I'm sure.. Like has already been said, trim the butts, not the tips. Lay it out and rearrange it if needed. Mix colors some too, looks good adding a stripe of an accent color.
