    Default Gander rumor

I read a post a while back saying that GM was getting out of the tying supplies. I met a gent named Marshall Hall in their Knoxville,TN store that gave me some info I'd like to pass along. A lot of the stores don't do much fly fishing or tying, and those will be scaled back. However this Knoxville store is the top seller of fly related stuff and will be carrying more than ever. Marshall has done guided trips, held casting and tying classes, and been fly fishing for about 40 years. He also builds rods and has forgotten more than I will probably ever know. He's very helpful and easy to talk to, and answered my many questions until he knew I understood what he was saying. A real nice guy. Corporate is leaning on him a lot to get this store stocked with what he thinks should be in a well equipped store. This store isn't local to me, but it's nice to know where to find what you need. Gander prices aren't the lowest but it might help some of us out.

I heard the same thing about our charleston store. And i spend good money there, so asked the store manager. I told him i heard the rumor and their supplies had been going to nothing. And he told me they were revamping the section, adding and subtracting things. I mentioned that a yr ago i could walk in and pick up what i wanted. He understood. And i showed him a few jigs, and where i was currently buying my supplies, he said give it a mth an you will see. Unless he was pulling my leg, the one here isnt shutting down.

Pbug, your store no doubt sells a lot of fly gear. It'll have a whole new look when the new Marshall said something about a corporate guy that had little exp in fly stuff had the section set up before. Looking forward to seeing what comes in.
RSAB, SW in Chattanooga is my close store and it's downsizing the tying section too. Getting picked over now but got some good stuff a little while back.

Gander in Our area never carried what the locals needed and They couldn't compete on pricing, large chains have standardize pricing and can't really work with comsumers 1 on 1, I understand peoples needs because, I'm like You I fish hunt or ty every day if I'm not designing new products,( they like Others have gotton away from this Were still Humans not just a place to derive money from. )

No different here in Vermont. The Gander Store across the lake my buddy at work tells me sucks!!! adn the Dicks Store here used to carry lot's of tying supplies but has done away with them to the objection of all.

Most don't care what they carry and after talking to one of the guys the main HQ checks each year for which store sells the most and what stuff, and figures all stores will do better by following suit and that's what normally happens.

Dang - hope that does apply to the local GM store (Rochester MN) - they are fairly well stocked w/ fly stuff - rods, flys, tying goodies, you name it. Going to have to make some inquiries - thanks for the heads up Skeet.

The Knoxville store has increased the amount of FF supplies. So thanks to Marshall. I very seldom shop at GM od BPS. I stopped by GM last week to get some Pro Tek powder paint and they wanted $7.49 a jar. Locals sell it for $5.49. Those stores are usually higher in price than my locals. However the FF supplies is something the locals don't carry.
