Don't they make an offset jig hook?
I used to buy worm hooks, Eagle Claw, that were double offset for holding the worm but flat from side to side. Got tired of missing fish one day and took a pair of stats and bent the point to one side a few degrees. End of problem. Point up or to the side always helps.
