I have no particular favorite color combos. Usually let water color decide what to start with. For instance super clear water. I like to use white/off white /cream or maybe even a translucent tail.
Stained water the louder colors flourescent , chartreuse or yellow even.
Chartreuse is as close as it gets to one color fits all.
Sometime even more important than color is profile of your jig. Does its size and shape resemble what the fish are feeding on that day ? Took me years to realize black was a good color for night fishing. I was looking at it from a human point of view. A gamefish almost always looks up while feeding. The black jig is easier to see from underneath as it stands out from light up above.
