Just an FYI here.
Just to let you know what is happening with these big Fox tails like I buy, the market is drying up totally.
I was using one of my big white tails on some big jigs for a guy that fishes for Strippers and decided to get a couple more of them and have been talking to my go to spot for these tails and here is what he told me...
Keep this in mind. there is not going to be very many tails on the market do to the fox ranchers and tanneries are cutting them off and burning them destroying them. this started 2 years ago to get the price of the fox pelt back up in price. The Chinese have been just buying the cheep tails to do trim on their garmet manufacturing and not buying the fox pelts. So the fox ranches and tanneries made a agreement not to leave the tails on the pelts to force the Chinese and others to buy the full pelt. The last report that i have received yesterday is that it is working. The fox tail market is just about dried up. I can not get any more quantity of white tails. the price has been going up monthly.I hope they will leave tails on again.there is no sign of it ever happen.
I don't think this will impact tails like Arctic Fox, but they are really small compared to what I buy. I bought some the other day and was shocked at how little they were compared to what I get from this guy so I got several white ones coming to fill my stock along with a few other colors and such. It looks like my big white tail supply is about gone for good. I guess some colors of the dyed ones will also be a problem since that is where they come from too. This guy that gave me this info is a really big dealer in fur/hair/feathers etc. for Fly tying. I don't buy much from him other than tails and some other hair.
If you don't use Fox tails then you don't need to worry about this, but I had to beef up my supply.

May God be with you. Keep CALM and STAY ANCHORED with your faith.
That sounds like a pretty typical cycle for a lot of furs. I heard that about minks at one time and chinchilla. Probably some others that went through the same type of price correcting. Hopefully things will get back to where the price is good for them without the tails so we can get them more readily again.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.
Very good post have you tried Goldberg.

Have not tried them Bob, but will soon to see what is going around about this. I know I bought some Arctic Fox tails and they are a lot smaller than what I get from this guy. These that are drying up are raised on a ranch type and have tails a lot bigger than what you get like say from an Arctic fox. They also have a lot of flexible-ness to them so feel they may be one type of hair I would like to try. I am not a buck tail jig guy at all.
Also got a Purple, Lt. Olive, Dun and a couple of Red Fox natural so go with my FL Yellow, Hot Pink, Fl Blue, White, Black, Hot Orange, Fl Chartreuse. Hope I didn't forget any, but sometime I just can't remember all the darn colors I end up buying of somethings. Wish I would stop doing that before I even know if I like the stuff as much as I "think" I will.
I feel like I loaded to the gills with it for now so not worried at this time about them doing this. It did cost me more for the Jumbo White I bought though his regular are really nice size anyway.
I tied 120 1/2 oz jigs for a guy and only used the White tail I have now and didn't use all that much of it and the amount I tied on was really nice and thick. It's about 6" across or maybe a tiny bit more for a few hairs.
Thanks guys and I will check both places,

I saw three big nice gray foxes deer hunting the other evening. I guess I might ought to latch onto me a couple of tails for hard times.
Probably so, but keep in mind all Fox are not equal as far and stiff hair of soft hair. I ask this guy every time which ones have to softer hair and I made a note from another time I spoke with him about Gray Fox hair and it is more coarse than some others. Red is really nice and soft as is the White ones. Still wouldn't pass on one if my hunt was about over for the day. I also have one Indigo Fox tails have black tips and mostly White and nice soft as far as their fur. It is so close to White that I could get away with calling it White with tiny amount of Black tips. My Silver Fox tail is also really nice and has a lot more Black tips and Gray color.
If my memory is right the Gray Fox has the most coarse hair or at least more coarse than the other tails I have. One thing though I didn't buy the Gray Fox tail so am just speaking from what he told me.

hey skip i dont know the prices you paying but i seen some tails up on ebay
Alan
Thanks, I did look and there is a lot of them, but hard to tell a lot from that. Some seem pretty reasonable for sure and some way high because they are pieces of clothing I guess. I have enough now for sure, but if I run low I will look back, but I also think most of these people have no idea what is going on and I was told to look for prices to go up monthly from now.
I saw some that were just smaller than I want and lots of ones that are natural colors and I have all of them I want now.
If I had looked before my last order I may have bought some of these.
