Glow in the dark paint / Whats best ?

Looking to get some glow paint, but not sure what is the best to get. Have bought some before in a brush on, but wasn't impressed with the paint, or glow it provided.

So what is your favorite, and a good place to get it. THANKS Mike

I've used a polyurethane varnish (dip) for jig heads painted with a white base coat. This is the water-based product available in craft stores. Have to admit, I'm not really pleased with my results. The glow isn't uniform, which is likely due to the uneveness of the "glow" particles in suspension. I suspect that I'm using a zinc sulfide product as is mentioned in the article.

I've fished the glow-varnished heads at night. Carried an old battery-operated 35mm flash unit with me. It worked to sufficiently charge the heads under no-light conditions. However, the glow was much weaker after about 5 minutes.

I'm leaning toward using a strontium-based vinyl paint or powder coating if ever I feel compelled to make glow jigs again.

The Glow Powder Paint Works Realy Good, I Like The Way They Turn Out

I only had a tiny amount of glow powder paint from roseys and I love it. It glows forever compared to everything else I have ever used. I put it over colors and over white base coat with the same results. One 1 minute charge with a UV LED light and it help it's charge for a good hour where I could see it in the water down to a good 3 feet.

Some day I will have a good 4 ounces to a pound of it because I do believe that glow jig/spinners/whatever else have a huge roll in getting bites in all conditions when nothing else works and whenever else you want to use it.

You did not say if you wanted powder or wet paint. If you want powder then Welcome to TJ's Tackle has different colors. I have been using glow paints for several years and I started out with zinc-sulfide based wet paints and eventually started mixing my own powder paints with strontium powders from here Glow in the Dark Powder when they first started selling their super glow. I mix Ultra Green v10 Glow in the Dark Powder with high gloss clear about 1 part glow to 2 parts clear. More glow powder for brighter and longer glow. Strontium does not like water so I clear coat over everthing and then cure everything out low and slow . White base coat is the brightest but any light color works fine. I use a camera flash to initialy charge the jigs while the spare jigs are charging in a homemade 12v UV LED setup that I made. We buy vinyl Super glow in white only we use a base coat of white vinyl we top all of this off wet clerical vinyl it dries perfect we've had no problems using vinyl paint some of the guys complain about the older but I do not mind this because it dries so fast we been years and vinyl paint for the past six years and I truly enjoy working with it give it a shot you can buy vinyl pain through most of they catalogs out there

THANKS for the info, yea should have said that i was looking for a glow powder, would prefer to use that over vinyl, as that stuff gives me a headach.

Is the powder from Glow INC. a powder paint that melts with heat, like Pro-Tec, or do you have to mix it with a clear wet brush on paint.

Also have you tried the Pro- tect glow powder paint?

Do you know anything about the glow powder paint that Jannsnetcraft sells ?

I mix the dry powder from Glow,Inc with clear coat ,1 part glow to 2 parts clear coat. The premix from most places are about the same. I use it just like powder paint. Base coat white,dip in the glow mix then dip in the clear with silver flake. I have tried all the premixes and they work ok but what makes my system better is I can control the mix ratios and the partical size of the glow is the largest they make. This makes for better glow. THANKS again, for the info, did checkout their web site, and did some reading, and it does sound like they have good stuff.

But i have 1 more question, in your write-up, you say that you mix the clear with the glow powder before you apply it to the head, and then you also say that you apply the clear after the glow has been applied.

Is the clear used twice in the painting of the head ?

Yes I use clear twice. First I dip the hot jig in the base coat(white or ? ) Then I dip in the glow mix of clear and glow. I reheat the jig a little then dip it again in the clear coat mixed with silver glitter to overcoat the glow powder. Glow powder will disolve in water if left uncoated so that is the reason for the overcoat. I usually heat the jig back over the heat gun to flow everything out then cure them for 30 mins. at 225. Be careful curing very hot or evrything will sag....ifish
