    Default hair straightener

I read on here I think a while back where someone was using a cheap hair straightening device to straighten the hair on kiptails. I bought an 18 dollar one with 2" wide plates and tried it. It did ok I guess, pulling the whole tail, bone and all thru the hot platens, but when I took the tail after it was good and hot, and pulled it thru one hand while gripping it pretty hard, it really straightened that hair out pretty good, and on a decent tail, I could get the hair perfectly straight. wetting the tail a little had negetive results, best to leave it dry. even could straighten the crooked tails while warm. who ever it was that mentioned this, thanks. I went back three pages and couldn't find the post.

Was it a device they used on that older post or some kind of stuff in a bottle?

It was fish_4_all that posted the idea.

Skip it is like an electric curling iron but it's flat plates that clamp together rather than a cylinder and you run the hair through between the plates and it straightens the hair with heat. Hair Straighteners - Read Hair Straightener Reviews at Folica.com

skip, yeah it is like a curling iron with flat plates, like jubs said. It really doesn't look like it's doing much, till ya lay it down and start pulling the warm tail thru your clenched hand. It takes being a little patient tho, as the more ya do it, the better the results. I'm thinking, if you had another way to warm up the tail without burning it ( maybe a microwave) you might get even better results. Even a regular iron with no steam, would work good I think, because you could heat a longer length of the tail at a time. If ya use mommas best iron and board on a stinky ole tail, I don't know ya tho. lol thank you fish4all for the idea!

When I did it I used a simple hair straightener and only had to do the ends so the bone was not in the way. I guess an iron could work too, might be easier to do the entire tail.
I did try steaming them and boiling them but when I got them wet they curled up again where the hair straightener kept them straight even after fishing with them.

Just make sure to check them when you "think" you are done by putting them in cold water to see if they stay straight.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.

Thanks for the info and I think my wife has one of them. However I am not sure she will let me use it, LOL!
