It seems like when you fellas get into kip tail, that's all ye use... Joe, etc...

What's the deal with that stuff? What's the action like in the water?

OKSTATE you will get alot of different replies to this everyone has different materials they swear buy but for me I use almost always kip. I believe kip is easy to work with , last alot longer then marabou, and cant be beat with the action it has in the water. I have jigs i have used for 100's of fish that still look like they did when i made them. Now maybe its just me but when i use marabou they seem to only last a couple of trips out. Again many will swear marabou or squirrel or there dogs belly hair is the best hair to use but thier wrong lol

Marabou catches crappie like crazy, but if you get a few big slabs they tend to make it not as durable as kip. Marabou or neck hackle gives you more action. Kip lasts longer IMHO. Both will catch you all the fish you need.

I know lots of people like kip tails and I tie them and even have a few for my self, but for the life of me I just can't put down a feather jig to use hair. It is stiffer and no where near the action of feathers. I have so many colors of kip tails you wouldn't believe it, but I just don't use them for my jigs enough to say a lot about them on either side on good or bad.

I just got done tying some with 3 colors of kip tails on 1/32 oz jig heads and boy that is slow work for me and hard to keep each color low enough to all fit on a small jig at least it is for me. Can't rush them.

I'm a marabou man... I've tied some bucktails and fished them a little... Many times I have tied a bucktail and a marabou on the same line, and the fish ALWAYS take the marabou. But kip, that's something I need to try. Flatfish will be hearing from me soon.

So we have Jiggin Joe in the Kip Korner, claiming that Kip has the action, and Skiptomylu in the Feather Corner saying that Feathers have the action!

This will be the KNOCK-DOWN, DRAG-OUT JIG FIGHT OF THE CENTURY!!!

    WHO'S IT GONNA BE?

Marabou has more action, kiptail has a subtle action which will catch more fish when the fish are inactive. There is room for both in my tackle boxes. I've been using kip more in the last couple years with good success.

they both have their place, and there are pros and cons to both. kiptail is my favorite because my style of jig uses no chenille body. the hair is just stiff enough to go the whole length of the jig and beyond the hooks bend, without fouling around the hook, when fishing. however if you use it in shorter lengths, it won't have much action, but will still catch fish. The consistency of the kiptail hair can be a problem too. you order the tails and pray that you will get some good ones. there is always hair left on the tail that you won't want to use. It takes more time and effort to tie the kiptail too. you have to select just the right amount to cut off the tail, then pull out some of the underfur, then pull out the unruly hairs and there will be many, and evening up the ends needs doin sometimes too. and all this is with a quality tail. But I just like it too much to not use it. A freind of mine claims to have caught in the neighborhood of 250-300 fish with one I gave him, anjd it's still usable. the kiptail requires a thicker thread too, as more wrapping tension is needed, along with a touch of zap a gap super glue just before tying off. I do tip these jigs with either a minnow or a worm. If I was using chenille tho, I would no doubt be using the marabou. confused yet?...lol

Don't doubt it at all that when they are being picky, as I call it, the kip tail maybe just the ticket and I know that I should try it at lease since I have a box full, LOL!
