Jig fishin on the 4th

Got out twice yesterday... Once early with my kids (I didn't fish then) and then again around 1:00. When I was out, not much luck with the jigs.... only got one on 1/16, knew they were there but just not biting. Switched a couple times with no luck, then switched up to this (another rr blade refurb) and got 3 keepers in 3 casts. The bite slowed again so started tipping it with some waxies and was back in business. Plan to make up some with some kip tails added on....... Ended with 10 keepers in 1 hour. Hope everyone had a good 4th!!!

I kind of like that and may need to make a few to try. I will probably try some marabou for the tail and maybe a dubbed body as I have a bunch of great dubbing.

I tried out that idea this afternoon. I put the spinner on some ice spoons I had made up. They have some nice action in a bucket of water. I will test them next week on some shellcrackers.

attica, nice idea but what is the body made of. I can't make it out in the picture. Question #2 how do you fish it, cast and retrieve like a road runner.

Grub - Sorry no pics, got em home and chopped em up quick to get to the park for the fireworks. Most were 8-9"ers with one 10.5"...... they're overpopulated in this small local res.... 1.5 miles from my house!!!! :D:D

Ship - They do have a good flutter/falling action to them for sure, got most strikes on the fall. Thinking they may do good fishing thru the ice.

PawPaw - I was fishing it under a small weighted bobber. Fish were still shallow on the bank chasing minnies, no deeper that 2'. The falling action was good so would pull the bobber 2 or 3 foot quick and let it fall. Got a couple just reeling slow also, kinda has a spoon like wobble, but spins if you reel too fast, may wanna use a swivel.

The body is just thread, with the white being glow thread. The hook has a pretty short shank and a wide gap as well.... wish I knew where I got the hooks from, only have a few left. Also has a large eye that the split ring fit through easily. Don't see why it couldn't go larger and wrap the shank with some lead wire....... - AtticaFish

A friend of mine on this forum told me about a similar concept they had for a blade above a tiny jig ice spoon. (Arnold's Fairy Jig) After he told me, I looked it up. I won't reveal the name of the person who told me, but he is reading this thread also and if he wants to reveal himself, then he will.

Anyway, this was the concept that Arnold had. He used a helicopter type blade instead of a R.R. type. I found this report on the web after my friend said the name.........Fairy Jig

K&E and the Arnold Tackle Companies have been producing ice jigs here locally for many years. Everybody is familiar with the K&E Moon Glow Jigs and they catch both gills and crappie. The Arnold Fairy Jig combines a jig with some flash and noise, it is an excellent jig for catching crappie and really aggressive bluegill. Probably my favorite one is the chartruse with gold back. Just a fun jig to use.
