Any good fishing near Ames?

Im going to be up there for a week during the middle of May and was wondering if there is any good fishing near Ames I might have a free night or two while I'm up there and looking for something to do.

brushy creek. also some pits west of boone. don't know much about them. crappie should be good at brushy as this winter was good. fish from 9.5" to 12" were common. you bringing a boat?

Brushy would be my bet as well but there are some good options down around des Moines also which is about the same drive from Ames as brushy only south. I am off a lot during the week pm me if you wanna get together.
