    Default anchors

I need some suggestions. I really never use an anchor, when I fish a brushpile, I just use the trolling motor to hover over it. That works fine most of the time, but sometimes, I would like to anchor and not mess with trying to stay on top. What kind of anchor will work well and hold me in place? I have an 18ft Triton. If I get an anchor that will keep me in place with a 10-15 mph wind, am I going to have trouble pulling it up if it gets caught on one of those brush piles? Is it a lot to expect an anchor to hold me in place with 20 mph winds? I really don't know what a reasonable expectation is.

Gunner, my boat is a 15 foot aluminum, so it's going to be much lighter than yours. I use two anchors to hold over structure, otherwise you tend to swing back and forth. One is just a common river anchor, but I don't know the weight of that one, maybe 10 or 12lbs. The other is a small fluke anchor and weighs about six pounds. I don't use a chain on either one but I do carry fifty feet of line for each, and on windy days I use all of it. I don't know what the wind speed was on Friday, but at least once the anchors wouldn't hold.

Google "danielson navy anchor" and "river anchor" for pics of what I'm using. Hope this is helpful. Seems like I used the search feature here to find information when I was looking.
