    Default Coralville Report 10/20/10

Went out last Wednesday to the Res' for some crappie fishing. The morning bite was good until the winds came in the afternoon and then the bite was tough for the bigger ones. Most of my fish came in 8-11' and had stumps/laydowns. Although, I caught some smaller fish most of the fish were in the 9-14" range. Biggest fish of day was a little over 14" and weighed 1.4 lbs. A very nice fat white one and still swimming. However, most of the fish were blacks. The bait was a double-minnow drop shot rig and color seemed to really matter this day. Early on the color was white scaly head and then changed to black/chartruese umbrellas. I was glad to get most of my fish early because once the wind came I hit shore and slip-bobbered a few spots but did not do as well as from the boat. Also, water temp was 57 most places however did find one spot which was 59.5 and had good luck there.

Thanks for the report! Sounds like you got some nice fish. I may head out to Big Creek after the Bear's game, if the weather holds out. I haven't had much luck with tubes yet. curley tail jigs, a little better, usually white, yellow, chartreuse. My best luck by far as been with minnows 9-15 ft deep on brush piles.

Sounds like a good day, I am always interested in Coralville reports, I know there are good ones in there but they seem to elude me more then not.
