I made a couple spring trips to Mississippi with Billbob. Muddy water is the norm down there. It does not bother me 1 bit anymore !

EC yesterday and today. Water murky with 6"-8" of vis. Had 44 deg. water yesterday and 49 deg. today, but that's just surface. Had 90 fish today and about the same yesterday, 3.5 hours fishing each afternoon. Will be glad when they put the docks back in - lol. Hoping Coon and Cat get back to normal soon. Some smaller fish moving up shallow with the warmer water, but most still in about 15 ft. of water.

Thinking about going to racoon lake (cecil harden) tomorrow. Is that what you mean by "coon"? I am curious what you mean by back to normal. Anything I should know before I decide to head that way? I have only fished it once in late summer last year, so not familiar with the seasonality yet.
Racoon Lake -Cecil M Harden,,,the Coon is short name for it..Catarac or CaglesMill is Cat for short. The Corps is dropping each as the Both is muddy and has been high. Coon not as much,,but due to March,,they may drop it all way to winter pool again. Coon is up a couple feet,,but way up,over winter pool where the Corps likes to keep it before letting it come up to summer pool in late spring. Cat is up over 23 ft over summer pool and both are dropping about a foot. Louisville District Daily Lake Report
Cevans pretty much covered it. Raccoon jumped 20 ft in a matter of days which usually means muddy water and scattered fish until they have time to adjust. However, that 2nd batch of rain jumped the lake nearly 10 more feet and about 5 ft over normal summer pool level, so I’ve avoided it. Coming back down now, but anybodies guess as to how good or bad the fishing will be. I’ll personally wait for things to stabilize more. Good luck if you go - leave a report
Even tho I haven’t seen the lake or fished it in years..I was raised on it and Raccoon Creek even as a kid. I mushroom hunted all the woods along Racoon Creek before the lake was built as had 2 uncles with cabins on Raccoon Creek and was a river rat in the summer growing up. The very last of my family,,my sis,,,just sold her 2 story building next to covered bridge on Raccoon River at Bridgeton. Lake will be muddy to heavy stained. With water temps still cold,,,crappie will be found along creek channel above 36 bridge in 15-20 ft of water..same in Main lake. Find the bait balls and you will find fish. If you want to scout and find crappie.
long line jigs no more than 0.8 to 1.0 mph. You might also pick up a striper. Mud doesn’t stop fish from feeding. Right now you can launch anywhere. If the Corps drops it back to winter pool, and they probably will,,,about only place to launch is at the dam. We are going to get more rain this week,,so expect the lake levels to go up and down and stay muddy. When looking at the lake levels,,,pay attention to the inflow levels as well as the outflows. Louisville District Daily Lake Report You should find crappie long lining jigs as they won’t be in the banks yet. If using electronics…you can find crappie also in the deep. Be aware of floating debris when running big motor. Also. Check out fish attractors installed on lake. DNR: Fish & Wildlife: Reservoir Habitat Enhancement Program
I’ve caught crappie on Raccoon when it was so high, muddy,,and full of debris that you barely squeezed under 36 bridge long lining jigs in early spring. Time waits on nobody. If long lining jigs…and you catch nice fish double back and see if you find them schooled up, then stop and cast the schools. Check your electronics. Search is on in spring time in deep water.
Thanks all. loading up the boat now. heading that way just before dawn. I'll report back. Those tips are helpful. I did find out when i went last year that it was different than what I am used to at Monroe and Patoka. Not near as much structure as those 2.
I just hope the boat ramp is open at the SRA and isn't as slippery as last time. I really busted my rump and soaked myself last time. it was like it was covered in snot. I had to crawl out on all 4's :biggrin
