    Default Patoka today

Foggy as all get out this morning and it finally burnt off about 9:30am. Launched at Osborne, lake is couple feet up above summer pool. Water temp at Osborne was 58 and muddy all way to bridge and main lake. I did catch 12 no larger than 9 inches in the mud long lining chartreuse tubes loaded with crappie nibbles on 1/16 oz roadrunners. Loaded up and went to Painter Creek at noon and it wasn't any better as water was muddy all way to main lake and temp was averaging 53 but I did find one bay with 62. Marked a lot of bait balls and fish scattered and suspended especially when hitting 12' or deeper water. Saw about a dozen boats fishing for bass, as well as 4-5 boats fishing for crappies, but didn't see any body catching any thing and they were running and gunning for the bass hitting here and there with no luck. Water temp surprised me as I didn't figure it would be that high. Lake is very muddy execept maybe parts of main lake. Wind was picking up. Pulled off lake at 2pm after checking out the boat and some new electronics I had installed. It's ready to bust loose if the water cleans up a little.

I was on the main lake. Caught at least 50 with about half being blacks. All were caught on jigs and after catching a few I quit using nibbles and it made no difference it was hit after hit.
That is the good new, bad new is almost all were 7 1/2 to 8 1/2 inches.

If I went faster than 1 mph, no hits, all fish were same size as yours. I went by Cutright and Allens Creek launch yesterday on Monroe,,,it's way up and both were muddy also.

Glad I decided not to go to Patoka after hearing that report. Went to a hike in watershed lake bank fished with earthworms on the bottom caught 12 big bluegill all close to 9" or slightly larger. Had one last week that was 10". Still haven't found the red ear yet they must still be deeper. Also caught at least a half dozen bass 14" and smaller.

Thanks for the report. I am having my morning coffee trying to decide where to go today. Wind looks to be a factor again today. May stay close to home and go to Dogwood for a change. Met a friend and bass fished a HOA lake yesterday. Despite a howling wind, we put 40 bass in the boat with none over 2 lbs. For the second time this season, I lost a nice bass at the boat that looked to be at 5-6 lbs.

Drove around Patoka today, Jackson ramp the temp dropped to 45, at the dam it was 44, at Osborne launch was 47. Cold weather has dropped the water temp by at least 10 degrees. Ouch.

Went out and fought that wind for a while today. Temps are back above 50'. Managed three bass three crappies.

Awesome! I spent 3.5 hrs Sat. on Patoka breaking in a new engine running all over the lake. Just put it on my 16' G3 Jon boat day before. 25 hp Yamaha. Always had merc's on the 20 diff. Boats I have owned. Never had a Yamaha and VERY impressed with it being a 4 stroke. Ran 33 miles, top speed was 26.5 mph and only burnt 3.2 gal of gas and boat was fully loaded. Been putting this fishing rig together now over last couple of months and just about done. Have a Bob's Machine Shop trim and tilt plate coming to still install and then done on my skinny water boat. See you some time on Patoka.
