That mushroom and crappie action sounds great, but a big plate sounds even better

Fished lake this afternoon from shore. Hit a cove that is usually pretty good pre spawn and we caught some but the bite was slow. Lot of people fishing in that cove and they were having same results. Water was pretty dirty considering it has not rained in a while. We decided to pack up and try another spot that is usually pretty good in the evenings and it was even slower there. Caught about 6 there and none of them were big enough to keep. We probably should have stuck it out where we started. May try again tomorrow and see if it's any better. Saw lots of mushroom hunters too and several had pretty nice finds.

Ya, bite was slow in the morning too. Also surprised how stained the water was with no rain. They're about 2' from summer pool, both forecast shows rain and thunderstorms for the next 6 days So today may be the last chance for awhile.

Went back this evening and tried the same cove. Bite was still kinda slow but fish were being caught. Seems like action is coming in spurts, then shuts off for a while. Kept around 15. Biggest fish was 12 inches. Would not touch a jig again, has been a minnow bite lately for me. If we don't get a bunch of rain to mess things up, this week and next weekend should be great. Warm temps all week, fish will be all over the banks. I'll probably hit my not so easy to get to cove next weekend. Too many people this weekend for me, felt like i was at the spillway.

Friday morning early was good for my Dad and me. Jigs seemed to work good. Saturday we didn't get out untill noon. They seemed to want the minnows mostly, but I was trying to get my 7yr old to catch fish so i couldn't fish to hard. Caught fish on the banks and in deeper water as well.

Yikes ! That tells me it's jon boat time

Hope they're wrong about all the rain, if we get all they say it could be a high water muddy mess.

Saw an estimate of 2-3 inches starting next weekend into the first part of next week. Terrible timing. Got a decent shower this morning but not too bad. Might try to get out on Thursday before the rain starts as it's the only free day i have this week. And yeah a boat would not be a bad idea. At least 15 people in the cove i fished yesterday and about 10 the day before.

Slightly off topic but is anyone hearing any gobbling around Missy? I'm drawn to hunt this weekend and the reports I'm hearing are not good.

Only heard 1 gobbler the past 8-10 days and he only sounded off for less than 5 minutes. This has been one of the oddest turkey seasons I can remember. I havent even heard a gunshot up there in the mornings for about 2 weeks
