Kayak fishing

A buddy and I got out last weekend while we were camping. I brought my kayak, so we fished in the morning for a couple of hours. The crappie were not in their usual hideout. We had to go looking a bit, but found them schooled up in 18' fow and they were about 10' down. We had a good time and the weather was great.

That looks like a great day right there. What make and model kayak do you fish out of? Did you guys have any electronics?

the kayak is a Nucanoe Frontier 12'. It is a large kayak, but i like it because i can bring a friend along like I did on this trip. They are a bit pricy though, and so there is some pro's and con's to a kayak this big. In regards to electronics I was using my humminbird 385 ci. I had my ice flasher on it. In fact i don't even use the open water transducer anymore. I do use this bird to ice fish with all winter long. I've gotten used to reading the ice transducer and the flasher mode. Quite honestly I think I can read the ice transducer and the sonar readings better then I can an open water transducer. That is probably due in large part to the countless hours I have sat fixated and staring at the screen while ice fishing.
In fact I caught a majority of those fish with an ice jig, spring bobber, and using the flasher. When we drifted or paddled over the school I could pick off 1 or 2 fish each time.

small boats are fun rarely fish in kayaks any more used to have a gheenoe and paper graph on it I could read it better too still got the graph but paper is hard to find good catch
