Here's a few I caught at Ferdinand over the weekend. Caught about fifty bluegill with a few good redear and these two crappie mixed in. As many of you know, I'm a redear fanatic and take great pride in catching them. We caught a cooler full of hand sized bluegill, a few redear and these two crappie. I tried pretty hard for crappie using minnows but had no success, then caught these two by accident.

The crappie were caught on worms in about six foot of water, fishing about four feet deep. The gills/ears were caught using worms in shallow water too. Sunday was the best day, Friday night it poured down rain and I was wondering if we were going to make it. Cleared off and the boy, wife and I had a great weekend. I talked to two different CO's and they were extremely friendly, didn't even check me for my license or anything. They said the crappie bite was on fire at Tipsaw, Beaver Dam and Patoka. Redear aren't there yet, give it two to three weeks of warm weather and they'll be on fire too.

That is a good lake. I worked there for a year. It is amazing how many fish are taken out of that lake and it still is a good place. Same with Celina, tipsaw and Indian.

Catching that many good sized bluegill is a pretty good weekend. The crappie are a bonus. I have found many small SI TM lakes to be great gill lakes, and usually have less crappie that are harder to catch...so when you do catch some, you are doing good ! If you target lakes known for crappie numbers, your crappie success will greatly improve. On the small TM lakes, you really have to target the beaver huts, blowdowns, weedlines, lilypad stems, or some kind of structure they relate to. We already know you are a killer on those red ear... and boy do they like worms.
