    Default Cataract 9/15

Been since late spring when I last visited Cataract, but had a friend who needed fish for a family get together next weekend. Sounded like a good reason to revisit, so I told him last weekend if he wanted to go, I was in. Showed up around 3:00 and traffic wasn't bad at all. Lake looked halfway clear, and water temps were running about 78 degrees. Almost no wind, which actually made the bite a bit tougher than I expected, combined with the front that had gone through. Was a gorgeous afternoon to be out though. Took a little searching to put the pieces into place, but once we started to get them dialed in, things picked up. As usual for us, everything came on jigs, mostly tubes but some curlytails also. Fish were a bit deeper than I expected, with most coming out of 14'-18' of water, though we did find a spot or two shallower. Pulled off the water at dark with a double limit, and headed to the fish cleaning station.

I haven't been to Cataract since July 14th Slab Master tourney... Looks like they might be biting? Been busy slaying them on Heritage Lake. 15 to 16"rs by the bucket full....LOL!
    Good job team nine.

LOL - Not too bad for Heritage TDH, but even those fish don't hold a candle to all the 16"-18" fish we get out of Cataract, and the 400-500 a trip we were scoring out of Morse Even read some online posts and articles that said so, and I'm sure Doug (HT) will back me on this . Unfortunately, outside of spring and winter, HL crappie have been 9"-10.5" by the bucketful, but not too many larger. Just real nice eaters, mostly. Still a blast!

I don't know much about the crappie on Morse, just been targeting those tasty large mouth bass! I never knew what I was missing until I grilled a limit of bass for some company a couple weeks ago. Since then, it's been smoked bass, blackened bass, bass tacos, fried bass! I have a golf outing fish fry this Saturday and I'm supplying the fish, so I figured I'd head out every night this week and stock up! The bad news, if my daughter is turning into a bass angler, because she thinks they're easier to catch...

Yeah Doug, sounds like you've lost her to "the dark side". Next thing you know, she'll be wanting a 20' Skeeter for her 16th birthday with a 250 hp Yamaha. Dual power poles. 36v Minn Kota troller, and not one of those worthless power drive motors - She'll want a real trolling motor, probably recessed foot control. You'll also need to buy her a pink sublimated team jersey with logos like "Bass Pro Shops", "Team Toyota Tundra", MegaBass, and Rapala. Leave all that wussy 'crappie nibbles' stuff off her jersey - you don't want her being teased at the ramp by the guys. She'll probably even shun live bait - 'cause we all know that's cheatin' - LMAO .

One step at a time T9, right now I'm teaching her the basics like how to write a big bass cook book... such as:

    equals Bake Bass:

    and this:

    equals Smoke Bass Tacos:

    and this:

    equals Sheephead Mushooms and Bass:

Dang Doug, that looks pretty good. It probably wasn't as good as the horned owl fritters and sturgeon stew I had over the weekend though.
