what happened to it that made it inelegible?
No one gave any thought to a spotted gar being caught or even what the record was. The fish was not weighed and destroyed. There has to be a certified weight and the fish has to be available for inspection. On a side note, the state just started recognizing the different species of gar and the state record fish is the only one that has ever been submitted. Out-of-idea's fish measured 34". Here is a link to the current record holders fish...
