I could not find an "Off Topic Forum" for Illinois and did not figure I would get much response in the "Hunting Forum". I am looking for helpful information for hunting the Shawnee Forest in southeast Illinois. My brother and I will be carrying our daughters up for the youth hunt and just trying to figure out the best way to determine what is public land and what is private land? I have hunted Crab Orchard and Fort Massac in the past and may just opt to take them to one of those but I know there is much more property to hunt. Trying to determine best options for lodging and camping as well. I have been on the DNR website and gathered some information about camping but hunting info is kind of vague...

Sorry I can't get it to display properly. But check a platte map in the county where you plan to hunt.

Thanks. I have downloaded Onyx and it has lots of information as far as boundaries goes. We will probably stick with the Crab Orchard area for now.

Call the headquarters and talk to DNR. I used to camp there year round and climb all over Shawnee. We would have deer hunters camping with us at times sharing camp sites and they were hunting same land we were using. I am sure they will give you info you need.
