Can anyone school me about the whites in the lake? Never been there don't know up from down and only have lakemaster map. Any fees/permits? Use marina ramp? etc.

The whites have disappeared for me this year .I have not caught one and I have fished for them several days.I got checked by the cpo and he said he had not seen any.Usually there is a half dozen or more regular places that everybody gets them.The mayflies have been out for a week or better up and down the lake and the first hatch of shad is about 3/4 to 1 inch long. Perfect for the whites to be busting on top.Maybe I haven't hit it right I don't know.Decatur requires a boat permit.They had a one day pass at one time but I don't know if that is still available.5$ I think.Otherwise the annual fee is based on your horsepower.The permit can be purchased at the lake patrol office in Nelson park with a check .Otherwise you have to go downtown at the civic center to pay.There are ramps in basins 1,2,3,5

I've caught some nice whites down at the spillway, about a pound and a half or so. I just get them on mister twisters. I'm just learning how to catch them though. I don't know if that's considering big for whites or not, but they sure taste good! I usually can only catch five or six of them though after I've given up on the Walleye bite.

Last year my friends and I had luck fishing the riprap banks toward the dam on the deeper side of the lake in the summer. Wind seemed to be the key, as they would stack up on a bank when the wind was beating down on it. I threw white or chartreuse grubs for the eating sized ones, and a 3/8oz lipless crank for the big hybrids. We had pretty good luck doing this.
