I have a 1988 StarCraft Super fisherman, 16 and half foot, v bottom with walk through windshield and 90 hp 2005 Mercury Optimax. It's old, bought it new, but I really like it. Yes, a strong wind can be a bit of a challenge with the trolling motor ... but I feel a lot safer on rough water. It does well on LOZ. I can stand on the gunnels and rock up and down and it hardly moves. It was a great family boat when my kids were growing up. The 90 hp Opitmax moves it along at about 32 mph which is as fast as I need to go. Pulls one skier real well.

If I was looking for a deep V aluminum boat I would look no farther than a Lund. Best aluminum boat made IMO!

Thanks for all of the advice.Looks like I'm leaning towards the 1650 Fishawk with 60hp 4stroke.It's a little less expensive than Lund or Alumacraft for similar boats.I'm thinking about a 9.9hp kicker with the savings.
Thanks again for all your help.Hope to see you on the water.
Steve.

What kind of fishing and where are you going to be using it at ?
-
Assuming I can catch them,Crappie, perch, walleye and maybe green carp. I will be using it on Lake Shelbyville,Rend,Lake,Lake Delavan and Lake Michigan[not to far from shore] and lakes in Northern Wisconsin and Northern Michigan.

are you planning on doing any spider rigging, the reason I wonder is because of the space up front on a deep V like you are talking about.
-
I really like my deep-V. Super stable, dry ride and on cold runs out or back (head to wisconsin every spring for a fishing trip) the windshield comes in very handy. I happen to have a Tracker V-175 Combo (fish n ski) but I have heard good things about crestliner as well. It just comes down the the layout you like and price you are willing to pay.

Might want to look at the crappie option Lund has. I can sit two people up front when spider rigging which is nice. I think I looked at many of the major brands Lund, Alumacraft, Tracker, Crestliner, Lowe, G3, etc and they all had certain features/layouts that I liked specific to that make/model. Not one manufacture offered it all. I encourage you to look and sit in each one and take your time. Good luck!!

I picked the Crestliner 1650 Fishawk.I checked out Lund,Alumacraft,Lowe and Tracker,The Fishawk seemed to be the best fit for me. It had a ton of rod storage and plenty of storage in the bow. They didn't have the crappie option but I saw that Crappie Extreme had a solution to that problem. Thanks for all of the input.
