Fox River
Has anyone here fished the Fox River for crappie? That is my nearest body of water (aside from forest preserve lakes) for decent fish. Ive been Fishing the river from St Charles down to North Aurora so far but could easily get down to around Oswego. Ive only caught bass so far out of the river, but Ive heard its good for crappie too.
I was hoping someone could give me some tips on this area (not looking for spots to fish). Ive tried downtown Batavia which Ive heard is really good, but no luck yet. I know to look for slack water, deep holes, submerged brush, etc. Should I be trying live bait in the fall or would plastics work? Do river fish expect to seea moving approach or could floating jigs, and working them back, under a float work?
Oh, and for now Im shore bound, but Im hoping next summer to at least have a pair of waders, if not a small kayak.
Hope someone can give me some pointers. I enjoy catching bass (and hopefully some walleye), but id really like to bring home some crappie for dinner some day this fall.
