As seen before me this is incorrect. Spider rigging usually is trolling and on Carlyle Lake you are allowed 3 trolling rods and two hooks per pole.

you can only use 3 rods trolling and the 3rd rod has to be labeled with your name and address and can have up to 2 hooks per rod. YOu cant fish with 50 rods in Illinois

Your right Pat, you can use the umbrella rig which has up to 5 jigs on them x3 poles = 15 hooks also. It falls under the troutline rules too.
Lets go soak a line. Pat

I think I would go to the ildnr website,to their ask a question link to get a better answer. As you can see not everybody agrees.I have used this link to ask questions several times and they are pretty good about giving an answer.

    TROllINg
Trolling is permissible, provided the angler has
not more than three poles and lines with not
more than two hooks or lures on each.

Two untagged sport fishing devices are
allowed; each device in excess of two must be
tagged with the angler’s name and address

Special fishing regulations at certain water areas
prohibit the use of some devices or numbers of
devices; please check the Site Specific
Regulations which are contained in this document
and are posted at various locations at the sites
(boat ramps and site offices) where applicable.

This is from the Illinois 2013- 2015 fishing regulations booklet. I think if you go and look which I have almost every lake in the state has it posted 2 pole limit other than the corp lakes.

Well I was gonna stay out of this debate but I can tell you for sure, unless the lake rules say otherwise you can for sure spider rig with 3 trolling poles and two hooks on each pole. As long as you are trolling you don't have to have any of the poles tagged. The key here is if you are anchored or not trolling. If you are anchored then you can fish with 50 poles as long as each pole is tagged with your name and address. I spider rig rend a lot and know for a fact the three pole rule. As far as the 50 poles and them being tagged, that is straight from the horses mouth. It falls under the jugging or trot line rules. But that would be more for guys who want to catfish. Who cares.
