While reading the Sunday edition Of the Sun-Times Re: Dale Bowman column GREAT OUTDOORS-Not a Great Opening Day, his field report on opening day of Deer season he mentions that" the best deer I heard about was a Facebook posting by Bob Zettler of what looked like a massive 10 point, which was shot minutes after opening in southern Illinois". I assume this is the same Zettler who writes those interesting fishing reports that I enjoy reading here on Crappie dot com. Congrats to Bob an a massive looking 10 point Buck. That report should be a story of stories to read. jax

Yep, it is the same Bob Zettler...Mr. Dark Cloud, himself. Haven't seen a picture, yet.

Good golly i had no idea me and the deer had our publicity agents working on this!

No story - yet - as this ole guy us still recuperating. Had little to no sleep the week before season and very little since - I still hunted ALL three days and was absolutely whooped that I seldom could make it back to base camp! In fact I fell asleep Friday night while reliving the days events with my hosts. They told me they had to wear earmuffs upstairs due to my snoring...and that was after they threw a blanket and pillow over my head. Hmmmm, maybe they were after me lucky charms?

This is probably the third best deer I ever shot and killed. The first is still at taxidermists 11 years later and the other was stolen by the landowners grandson and crew as I was tracking it many years ago. First time I ever tried to chase someone down carrying a loaded weapon!


This will be only the second deer on my wall and just hope its not another thirty years for the next one...


Heck, I hope I have another 30 years chasing them!
