Default Newby need advice for Rend Lake

    Hi fellas,

Me and two friends are planning to head out to Rend Lake on Saturday to do a little fishing for the day. We were going to rent a john boat for a day.Due to the new fatherhood life, we haven't have time to do anything and now we wanted get together and relax for a day. Can any Rend Lake local show us a few good spot for crappie or white bass? We are from Wentzville, Missouri, so we're not familiar with Rend Lake. Thank you in advance.

    Repectfully,
    Justin

Rend could be mighty rough on a fella in a jon boat on the weekend. I steer clear of it myself. be careful and wear em PFD.

You might want to consider putting the cost of renting a boat toward a guided fishing trip. Probably not that much more expensive and the chances of a great day of learning the lake and catching fish both go up dramatically.

usually what the charge for 3 person as we don't want to spend much. the boat rental is only $75 for a whole day which doesn't seem bad and we can go at our pace

I would go with Mean Green 2, Nick is a great guy and a heck of a good guide, very reasonable. And if the cost is a problem, then just try a half day trip. Plus by the time you pay for the gas, bait and tackle plus the knowledge of how and where to fish the lake, it only make sence to go with a guide.

Buy a lake map or go onto the Corp site and look for their brush piles. you will need a GPS. vary the depth until they bite. Also, Rend is still up, look for buck brush in the back coves. The crappie are still holding on the brush. You won't catch them on every bush, but you will catch them. Best of luck daddio.
