    Default New...help

    Hi,

I am recently new to Crappie fishing and I am hooked after landing a cooler load and frying them up recently. My question is this, I am located in cental Illinois and I am looking for help and tips on where to find some good fishing this winter. Also, what is everyones favorite baits/lures for pulling winter slabs.

Most any solid body or umbrell body will work with them. Mainly using Slab Bandits.

I live in Arnold, Mo, just over the Meramec River from St. Louis County. It's exactly 92 miles from my house to Paul Ice ramps at Kinkaid. I like to go over JB Bridge through Waterloo, Red Bud, Ballwin, Sparta, Steelville, Willisville, Ava route ... about 2 hours . I've fished Kinkaid since 1985 ... it's a beautiful lake ... lots of deep water and not many obstructions but VERY busy on weekends. During the week, not bad. Good crappie, bass, catfish, muskie. Main marina sells gas/minnows.

Kinkaid is close to 2 hours from me. I was hoping to learn of some new spots a little closer to home. I agree, it is beautiful, that whole area is good fishing, Lake Murphysboro, Crab Orchard, Little Grassy... good stuff. Anyone know of any crappie holes a little closer?
