    Default Jonathan Creek this weekend

My dad qualified for the bass world classic on ken lake. My brother and I are going down to check out the weigh ins. It just so happens that I will be chasing some slab crappie when everyone else is bass fishing. I figure if my brother and I limit out Saturday and Sunday that's 80 fish over 10".

I have been reading the reports and it looks like they aren't quite shallow yet. Anyone have any knowledge of the Jonathan creek area? Anyone have a lucky ken lake color? I'm just going to use my lake mattoon knowledge and hope for the best. Hopefully I will have some pics to post!

With the lake level where it is at, also with the last time that I was down there, you could wade across J-creek if you go back to where the tree line that meets the walking bridge stops (there is a large grassy area there that leads back to some great duck hunting sloughs). So if they are that shallow, then sure, go for it. However you better have a boat that can go shallow. Ah...unless you are talking about Kentucky lake, I am speaking of Shelbyville...I think I am mistaken on this one.

The last time I was down @ J Creek, I encountered similar conditions. As you head out Jonathon toward the main lake and on the south side of the bay, there are several drop offs from 8 or 10 ft into 20 ft. several of those drops are heavily brushed. They usually hold fish. If you can find those drops on your electronics, you should get ya some.

    Good Luck

Poor report. Marked tons of fish but couldn't get any action. Tried everything.......jigs, minnows, minnow tipped jigs, tightline, casting, but they just weren't hitting. All of the locals were struggling as well so I didn't feel too bad. Good trip hanging out with my dad and brother. Dad didn't win a boat but a local mattoon father son team took home the gold. Congrats to the McDowells. If u read the jg/tc, you will see the pics of them my brother took.

Back to mattoon for my crappie.
