    Default kaskaskia river baldwin area

Anyone ever crappie fish the kaskaskia river from new athens south to the lock. I just moved up to red bud not to long ago and was thinking about heading to the river this weekend to check it out. I haven't river fished for crappie that much so I would appreciate any tips you guys have for trying to locate fish.

I've fished out of the wood duck ramp once last fall. Looked like there should've been crappie everywhere with all the brush, etc. but didn't have much luck. Conditions were rough the day I went, so I will be down there more this year, trying to learn the place. One "good" thing about fishing down there is you'll probably "catch" fish every time you're down there.....those asian carp jump right in the boat with you!

A co-worker fishes that section of river quite often for crappie...he has decent luck with all of the old oxboxs and backwater areas. The only problem is the fluctuating water levels can have a big impact though, so plan accordingly to the changing water levels. If you can find decent water depth, with good structure, you should find some good fish!

    Good Luck
