weed guards?

Anyone have any tips for fishing jigs with weed guards up in timber? I have never done this before , does anyone trim them back as well ? Any tips would be nice . thanks

I don't use any kind of weed guard on my crappie jigs in the timber or stumps. I'm not sure if thats what you mean?

Don't get the jigs with the fiber guards, they are too stiff and you will not get a hook set, miss lots of fish. Get the ones made with steel wire weed guard. You can bend the wire to suit different cover situations. Arkie jig makes em, used to sell @ walmort. I pour my own and use stainless leader wire.
