Fished Lake Decatur yesterday afternoon for three hours, ended up with only three fish, little dissapointing but that being said it was warming up big time, up to 58 when I got off the water at 4. It was just too windy to hold on anything. Jig and float + tighline is what I caught them on. Everything came out of less then 3 feet of water. Tried fishing deeper 5-8 with no success.
Anyone else been out to fish Decatur? Any luck?

I've been fishing it since the ice melted almost daily, but took the last couple days off due to wind. It's been pretty hit and miss, some days will be great and the very next day you won't even get a nibble. The ones I have managed to catch have all been about two foot deep.
I was doing great before these winds came along a few days ago.A little jon boat dont do to well in the wind. From March 10th through the 27th,my boy and I have gotten 7 limits of real nice crappie.1 trip since then and only picked up a couple fish.plenty of good angling days to come.

Been hit and miss for me to the past week after the lake rose with the last rains we got. Prior to that had been on them pretty consistently. A little harder to find them now and with more rain due this weekend, we'll just have to wait and see what that does to them. Been a little tough the past couple of days with the wind but have managed a few but no limit in the last 3 times I've been out. All fish have been caught in less than 3' of water with a tube jig.
Good fishin' to ya.
You guys catchin any size?
I have been out four times since the ice. I got a limit twice. The average size is a bit bigger than last year. My biggest was 11 1/2. This may be a good year for Decatur. Unlike the rest of the guys catching them in less than 3' of water, most of mine have come from 6' - 10' of water down about 4' in brush piles and trees. If you know where the submerged trees are, you can catch them. I use tube jigs.
The last few times out for me it's been probably a 60/40 ratio for me. 60% of the fish were short and 40% were legal. Largest keeper thus far has been 12.5" with the majority of keepers in the 10.5" - 11.75" range for me. I've had to move around a lot to find them and have a ton of zero catch locations. Haven't had a limit the last few times out but have caught fish, maybe 10 fish a day/average for me regardless of size, but I don't have a boat either so little different scenario for me than some others.
With this front coming through here today, I'll be anxious to get back out and see what it's done to the bite. Lake level is up a little from the last rains we had and they quit pulling as much over the dam. Lake Decatur has a 10/10 limit for those of you that may not know.
Hmmm, now that the rain is gone, I am contemplating getting out for awhile before the winds kick up again. Do I head to Decatur or Shelbyville...decisions, decisions????
