    Default Ice fishing line

Put some 2# fireline on a couple of my jig poles. Has anyone used it? And if so how well does it perform in the cold. Rich

Did you use the fused crystal or just plain fireline? The regular black fireline even in the very light weights is a little too stiff for my liking in the winter if the target fish is panfish. Heavier jigs like the stuff used for walleyes will work ok with the standard Fireline.

The crystal works pretty good unless its really cold, like 0 or below. It seems to shun the water build up ok until the temps nose dive and you're on open ice. The Fused Crystal's surface is fairly closed and the line is still quite pliable for the ice in one, two and up to four pouind while using smaller jigs. I have a couple of rods I built on carbon blanks with over sized guides & tip-tops. These are stiffer rods and I don use springs on them but they both have two pound Crystal. The hits, however soft, are still like an electric shock. I like these rods for hole hopping.

If you are teming the crystal on a spring rod you'll lose a lot of the advantages of the line to spring's dampening affect. A strsight ul or lightweight rod will give you great performance with 2 pound lines

never tried that line before, what ever line you choose as light of line as possible for the fish your targeting.

I try many types of line and some do work better but every one has different demands so don't be afraid to give other lines a shot
