Great article. I thought I was the only guy who preferred the thump you get from holding your rod. These NC guys like to hang the rods in a holder, wait for a fish to swallow their minnow and bend the pole double, then put down their Pepsi or sandwich and jerk the rod and pretend they actually caught something.

Lights I use are submerged in water. Bug if attracted, would be attracted to light mostly at water surface on side of boat. We use hat lights but sparingly to keep bugs away. Honestly, bugs are rarely ever an issue whatsoever. As far as too much light, I dont know. I do think and did before, that the best place to fish is in the shadows of the lights, behind the lighst if your moving. Big fish rarely come up in the light where they can be seen. Either fish deep under the lights, or slightly behind the boat lines drifting backwards into the darker area just outside the light.
