This story really hits home with me.My grandfather lived in Alabama and me in N.C.He,s the one who got me in to hunting and fishing, working, praying and about everything good thats in me.Well as I grew older I got there less and less untill we just went at Christmas. When my son was born he had become verry Ill just like Mr.Baker.My grandfather was in home hospice care when I was called in to see him before he died. But when he found out we were coming and my son who was three at the time was coming in he told me to bring an old 22 rifle he gave me and have the hammer back because we were going squirrel hunting. When I arrived in Hamilton Alabama his hospice nurse was there and couldn't believe what she saw.He was up ready to go,we walked those hills all day and treed 11 squirrels,my son shot every one of them with his great grandfathers help.Thank you for bringing back that memeory with Billy and the Kid!I wonder who helped who the most?

I feel the we are the sum of those that we bring into our lives not those we keep out. That was a great story wannbe, thanks for writing it and having Slab publish it here. It's a story that touches our hearts and brings many of us back to our younger years and gives us some direction on where to head in our coming years. It's a joyful story touched with sadness, but isn't that what life is all about. Sorry about your Dad's passing and makes me think of mine. With he and I it was just the opposite of most father and son stories. It was I who brought him to fishing and then to watch him in his retirement enjoy it to the fullest. I've passed on what I know to my sons and daughters and now they enjoy the sport of fishing as much as I do. I'll be working on my grandsons and I hope to be successful with them also. Take care and blessings to you and may your pen soon come alive again.
